1. What is the nature of E-waste recovery in the country in general and in the informal and MSE sector in particular? (Give a general description of the sector, activities, locations, variations/specialities.

2. How many people earn livelihoods through E-waste recovery, and how are these distributed between those recovering working systems, parts, and constituent materials like metal or plastic?

3. Are these people in general families, men, children, women? Are they specific social classes, castes, ethnic groups? Are these people generally able to read enough to understand symbols on the EEEs?

4. Are there geographic or other kinds of concentrations of these activities?

5. What does someone in this field earn per day, week, month? Is this formal or “black” income?

6. How does this daily income compare to (1) that of normal waste pickers, and (2) the official national minimum wage?

7. What do the MSE and informal recyclers know about the materials they are recovering? Do they know which materials inside are dangerous and what the dangers are to their health?

8. Do they know what processes are dangerous or about the health effects (processes in this case means burning or heating, physical dismantling, chemical precipitation, dissolving, flotation, mechanical shredding or chipping, breaking of glass, etc)?

9. Do they or their employers/buyers take any protective measures to protect the health of workers or the environment?

10. What kind of health impacts do they report, if any?

11. Is there a national discourse about E-waste recovery? Who is involved in it?

12. Is there substantial import (or export) of used ICT/E-waste? How much comes in? What percent of total E-waste is imported/exported?

13. Which authorities regulate the import/export? How is used ICT/E-waste classified in the laws and regulations? Is the import officially legal or illegal? Is this status enforced?

14. Is the country a signatory to the Basel Convention? What is the national authority responsible for activities related to the Basel Convention?

15. Is any part of used ICT/E-waste classified as a hazardous or toxic waste in the country’s laws or environmental or waste management rules? What is legal and “correct” to do with E-waste generated within the country (i.e. landfill it, dismantle it, etc?).

16. What is legal and “correct” to import, and for what purpose?
